The Union Leader editorial page doesn't think negotiators representing the State Employees Association are living in the real world, or realize how dire the New Hampshire budget situtation really is:
She says the state had better include a “sweetener” if it wants the employees to agree to cuts.
Wouldn’t it be great if taxpayers could demand sweeteners from the state? “Sure, you can raise taxes and fees, but we demand free parking at Hampton Beach for a summer and one free state lottery ticket each week for a year!” Alas, taxpayers live in the real world, where tax hikes are simply imposed upon them, as pay cuts, furloughs and layoffs often are, too.
