The Concord Monitor editorial page pines for the lazy days of summer in France, where the government actually forces you to be lazy:
It's almost a quaint notion here in the United States, the idea of grinding to a halt on Sunday. Aside from widely varying state laws regarding alcohol sales, virtually all "blue laws" were long ago repealed.
But it wouldn't hurt us, here in the heart of summer, to devote some serious thought to what the French seem to do so much better than we do (okay, one of the things they do better than we do). (more)
It would do most of us some good to take a breather now and then. It would not do us any good to be forced to the sidelines.
