Foster's- Let's keep Gaming Commission fair, balanced

Foster's editorial page questions the timing of a new Commission to study "Gaming" in New Hampshire:

Let's take an open and honest look at social costs and properly test revenue estimates — out in the open and without bias.

That said, the timing of Lynch's commission is worrisome.

Two superior court judges have frozen state-held funds totaling more than $100 million. Another lawsuit is set to challenge a state budget decision to hike the contributions cities and towns make to the state retirement system.

Should any or all of these be successful, the recent two-year budget plan adopted by the Legislature and signed by Gov. Lynch won't be worth the paper it is written on.

And if the legislative debate over that budget debate is any indication, Gov. Lynch and the Democratic leadership in the House and Senate won't look to cuts as a solution.

That is where concern lies over establishing a gaming commission. (more)
