UPDATE- Virginia Postrel reviews "Free" this morning in the New York Times.
Malcolm Gladwell, who is just about the best and most readable writer out there today, reviews Chirs Anderson's "Free" in the New Yorker.
To musicians who believe that their music is being pirated, Anderson is blunt. They should stop complaining, and capitalize on the added exposure that piracy provides by making money through touring, merchandise sales, and “yes, the sale of some of [their] music to people who still want CDs or prefer to buy their music online.” To the Dallas Morning News, he would say the same thing. Newspapers need to accept that content is never again going to be worth what they want it to be worth, and reinvent their business. (more)
Interestingly, Anderson's book is not free, but it's getting there. It's listed at $26.99 on Amazon, but is already marked down to $16.19, or used for just $14.00. As Anderson posits, information wants to be free.
