Mayor Evelyn Sirrell Passes

Adam Leach reports in the Portsmouth Herald on the passing of former Portsmouth Mayor Evelyn Sirrell:

Former Mayor Evelyn Sirrell died Friday morning following a prolonged series of illnesses at the age of 78.

Know for her feistiness and personable nature, the “people’s mayor” has had several medical problems since she decided to not run for re-election in 2005. She served on the City Council for 14 years beginning in 1986 and served as the mayor from 1998 to 2005.
