Foster's Daily Democrat editorializes against both the content of and the politics behind the New Hampshire budget to be considered by the House and Senate on Wednesday:
In the past, budget battles have taken on a partisan identity. This year, Republicans are relying on Democrats to self-immolate. The two parties are treating the people of New Hampshire as a distant interest, pursing, instead, their own special interests and ambitions
Budget cuts, broader and increased taxes and expanded gambling are the alternatives or combinations of alternatives to which lawmakers are focusing their narrowest attentions. Thursday, there was some idea of Democrats coalescing on a combination of revenues and budget cuts. By Friday, however, there was the appearance of renewed disarray.
