The price Nixon paid for "ending Viet Nam" was allowing the North to invade the South, killing thousands, imprisoning tens of thousands, without the retaliatory air strikes Nixon had promised the South Vietnamese leadership. Kissinger knew all about this. Giving him the Nobel was like giving it to Jomo Kenyatta..Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4020721544304277206.post-67615507623353418812009-10-12T16:21:04.692-04:002009-10-12T16:21:04.692-04:00Kissinger got the prize for peace talks that actua...Kissinger got the prize for peace talks that actually ended a war. I'm not a fan of his diplomacy by any stretch. I think his obsession with realpolitik at the expense of a moral foreign policy made the world less safe and possibly extended the Cold War. History will and should judge him as a failure.

I find it amusing to have my credibility questioned by someone unwilling to leave their name. Kissinger selection with Le Duc Tho was far from the best decision the Nobel Committee ever made, but not among the ten worst. If you disagree, make your case and put your name behind it.Grant Bossehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17469598031132502720noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4020721544304277206.post-34259397092746227642009-10-12T14:52:16.968-04:002009-10-12T14:52:16.968-04:00No, Kissenger didn't make your list because he...No, Kissenger didn't make your list because he worked for two Republican presidents. Kissinger and Le Duc Tho were close. ...Thanks, Tim

Kissinger and Le Duc Tho were close. But they actually got the award for peace talks that ended a war, even if it look a while. Le Duc Tho refused to accept the award, in fact.

Also close to the making the list was Rigoberta Menchu, who received the award for her work in Guatemala. She has since admitted that she embellished her memoir that led to the award. But the memoir wasn't her sole accomplishment, and I consider it the Committee's mistake.

For every Mother Theresa or Martin Luther King, there seem to be three unworthy winners.Grant Bossehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17469598031132502720noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4020721544304277206.post-39110371579243886912009-10-10T10:16:44.782-04:002009-10-10T10:16:44.782-04:00You forgot Henry Kissinger and Vietnamese strongma...You forgot Henry Kissinger and Vietnamese strongman Le Duc Tho, who shared an award in 1972.Timothy Horriganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16102589995184667939noreply@blogger.com
